Restrictions Easing, Lots of New Customers—and a GREAT Summer Ahead for Firearm Industry

With stay-at-home orders beginning to loosen and businesses starting to reopen, the staff at NSSF knows that our range and retailer members are anxious to start transitioning from an all-hands-on-deck sales mindset to one that fosters a growing community of shooting sports enthusiasts. With light showing through at the end of the tunnel, we want to encourage our range and retailer members to turn some of their focus to National Shooting Sports Month®.

This August will be our fourth year celebrating the shooting sports. With tens of thousands of people who purchased their first firearm during the pandemic and millions of existing gun owners eager to get outside for a little safe trigger time, all signs point to having more to celebrate than any before—much more! What a fantastic opportunity this is to teach all these new gun owners about safety, about firearm handling skills and, most of all, about how firearms can provide a lifetime of entertainment for anyone.

NSSM 2020

NSSF has a wealth of support to help make your National Shooting Sports Month events successful this year, even with six-feet-apart or mask-wearing mandates:

  • NSSF’s First Shots® introduction to shooting program is a fun, safe and economical way to start a new gun owner down the path of recreational shooting—and it’s a program that’s earned a reputation for turning those first-time shooters into repeat customers.
  • Create NSSF +ONESM Movement-themed promotions or events that motivate existing gun owners to bring someone new.
  • Businesses listing their events on ShootingSportsMonth.org receive National Shooting Sports Month T-shirts and caps to use as giveaways or prizes with your promotions.
  • New for 2020, our “Summer Shots” target game is designed to incite great friendly competition with new and experienced shooters alike.

Keep an eye on our National Shooting Sports Month website for all the latest updates, a place to list your promotions, events and/or classes and more. We are in this together, working with you and for you to create new and effective pathways to business success in these rapidly changing times. Let’s make National Shooting Sports Month the jump-off point for that success.
