Straw Purchases – Tactics to Help Avoid Them and What to Do if You Think You Made One
Straw purchases are doubly dangerous for FFLs. First, it’s not your father’s ATF anymore. They are becoming increasingly strict with enforcement actions and will revoke your license for making obvious straw purchases. Secondly, straw purchased firearms are often used in crimes which traces back to the FFL that sold them. Therefore, FFLs and their entire sales staff must understand what straw purchases are and have best practice policies in place for screening potential buyers to help recognize and prevent these purchases from happening. Equally important is to know what steps to take if you determine that you made a straw sale.
Join retired ATF officials Wally Nelson and Judy LeDoux for this important session where they will cover the above topics, along with common straw purchase scenarios, straw purchase prevention training and will get your questions answered!

ATF Form 4473 Excellence To Avoid Revocation
For Federal Firearm Licensees (FFLs), it is often the everyday innocuous-in-appearance transactions that ATF may interpret as “zero tolerance” violations and ultimately lead to a notice of revocation.
We will expand on NSSF’s Shot University™ Online course “Completing ATF Form 4473 (August 2023 version and effective mandatory use February 2024)” which discusses the basics of how and when a federal firearms licensee (transferor/seller) and non-licensee (transferee/buyer/resident and non-resident) complete Section(s) A through E on the transaction record.
During this session, you’ll learn how to identify and manage these seemingly innocuous transfer situations in 100% regulatory compliance and gain a clear understanding of the regulatory process as well as the licensees’ responsibility so you don’t accidentally fall prey to what can be misconstrued as a willful zero-tolerance violation.
