2016 SHOT Show Panel Discussion—Merchandising To Women Hunters: It’s More than ‘Going Pink’

womanhuntingThe opportunities to sell products specifically made for women hunters are available in a capacity never seen before. That’s because women hunters are out in the field in numbers never seen before. Put the two together, and your store should be seeing an explosion in new customer traffic and sales. But is it? Are women hunters turning to you and your store for the products they want and need?

If you’re not capitalizing on this growing market—and I do mean growing, because this is not a trend that’s here today and gone tomorrow—then your business is missing out on one of the best opportunities our industry has seen in years to grow participation in hunting and the shooting sports, not to mention expand your own footprint and capture an entirely new and loyal customer following. But working to meet the demands of the women’s hunting market is more than about carrying a few guns with shorter stocks or ear protection in pink camo—much more.

For every retailer struggling to come up with the right inventory mix and marketing plan that draws women to your store and keeps them coming back, I strongly encourage you to attend the 2016 SHOT Show’s Retailer Seminar, “Merchandising to Women Hunters — Panel Discussion.” Presented as a panel discussion and moderated by well-regarded industry professionals Judy Rhodes (founder of the women’s hunting and shooting education organization DIVA Women Outdoors Worldwide—WOW), Melissa Bachman (host of the TV show “Winchester Deadly Passion”) Tiffany Lakosky (co-host of the TV show “The Crush with Lee & Tiffany”), Barbara Baird (freelance writer/editor), and Shannon Reaser (co-host of the TV show “The Outdoor Option”), this seminar will work to have retailers better understand how women shop (because it’s not how men shop) and educate their staffs on fitting firearms, bows and gear like backpacks to female physiques. Attendees will also hear how merchandise displays and store layouts can be improved to encourage women shoppers, as well as marketing outreach and store amenities (think dedicated women’s classes) can not only attract women hunters to your store, but turn them into regular customers.
