2008 Shooting Sports Summit Format:

** Signature Sessions: Designed to present the most pressing issues facing our industry today. Authorities in their respective fields will present a topic to the full summit audience. Signature sessions will be followed by breakout sessions.

** Breakout Sessions: Smaller group discussions designed to delve deeper into specific topics presented in the signature session. Attendees will have a choice of topics to choose from. Breakout sessions run concurrently.

**Network / Roundtable Discussions: Smaller roundtable discussions at the end of the day to recap the information presented in the signature and breakout sessions. These discussions will provide attendees ample opportunity to learn how to implement the strategies they learned directly from the presenters.

**Going Green: The 2008 Shooting Sports Summit will be a paperless event. Each presentation will be provided to attendees on a USB flash drive. So no matter what breakout session you decide on attending, you will have the presentations from all other sessions available to you.

**Smile, You're on the Web: Various segments of the Summit will be Webcast by ESPN to a larger audience on the Internet. Webcasting sponsored by GunBroker.com.

The Future of the Hunting & Shooting Sports

The thesis presentation is the underlying foundation of the 2008 Shooting Sports Summit. It presents the results of a three-year multi-state conservation grant project submitted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in conjunction with Responsive Management and funded by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The report includes strategies and recommendations for increasing participation in and support for hunting and sport shooting based upon a solid foundation of primary and secondary research. Multiple strategies have been developed from this research and tailored to meet the needs of different sectors within the industry.

Strategies for Reaching New Generations of Customers

Neil Howe - Speaker

Neil Howe is a best-selling author, national speaker and leading authority on generations in America. Howe will present powerful insights into the various generations, with special focus on the "Millennials": what motivates them as consumers and how they will shape the marketplace. An historian, economist, and demographer, with graduate degrees in economics and history from Yale University, Howe has spoken to a variety of corporate and nonprofit audiences—from Ford Motor Company, J. Walter Thompson, AARP and PBS to Merrill Lynch, the Marine Corps, the U.S. Bureau of the Census, and the Central Intelligence Agency.

Innovative Solutions for Scaling the Access Barrier

Access needs to be addressed in any discussion of the future of hunting and the shooting sports. This signature session focuses on one of the most important constraints to hunting and shooting that we CAN do something about as an industry.

Joel Pedersen, Senior Wildlife Biologist, National Wild Turkey Federation

Tom Brown's extensive research efforts include a broad array of human dimensions topics, including social and economic impact analyses, citizen participation processes, outdoor recreation trends, tourism and social research methods. He will lead a discussion highlighting specific access barriers and liabilities.

Joel Pedersen is a senior wildlife biologist with the National Wild Turkey Federation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage. He has been with the NWTF since 1999. Joel is responsible for managing the NWTF's More Places to Hunt program, which strives to improve access to public and private lands for hunting and other recreational activities.

These breakout sessions will host two panels of state-level agencies that were recipients of the National Shooting Sports Foundation's Hunting Heritage Partnership (HHP) grants. One panel will focus on the issue of creating new access, while the other will focus on the issue of managing existing access programs.

ALTERNATIVE METHODS IN PROVIDING ACCESS USING NEW-AGE TECHNOLOGY

A panel consisting of leaders in online technology will discuss a series of resources and tools that provide solutions to the access barrier. Panel speakers will include:
