Soap Opera Stars Bloomberg vs. McAuliffe
There’s a new chapter in the ongoing soap opera starring Virginia’s Gov. Terry McAuliffe and ex- New York City mayor Bloomberg’s gun control groupies.
Back in 2013 we pointed out the damage Bloomberg caused to McAuliffe’s campaign by spending $1.2 million airing supportive ads in the state. Thanks to his “help,” McAuliffe saw a wide lead in the polls shrink, leading to a tight race and narrow victory in a state where most voters thought Bloomberg should stay out of Virginia issues.
More recently, less than six months ago, Bloomberg’s gang poured millions into Virginia’s state Senate races, in an effort to support McAuliffe’s unsuccessful bid to flip control of the chamber.
Now, Bloomberg’s gun control groups are actually attacking the governor for governing rather than kowtowing to the policy desires of the former New York mayor. McAuliffe had the audacity to strike a deal on gun legislation with Republican legislators that prioritizes punishing criminals instead of law-abiding gun owners in the state. Bloomberg’s squad is so unhappy with all of this sensible legislating that it is taking out full page ads slamming the governor it once supported.
Can’t wait to find out what else happens when New York City policy agendas fail to gain traction in Virginia? Stay tuned for the next episode…
