NSSF Objects to DDTC Gunsmithing Guidance
NSSF is continuing its drumbeat against the State Department’s “guidance” regarding who is required under current law to register with the agency as a manufacturer of defense articles. This week we took action in the form of a letter to the State Department expressing strong opposition to its regulatory overreach and guidance that has caused considerable confusion among gunsmiths and gun owners.
Last week NSSF asked you to take action and tell your member of Congress to step in and stop the Obama Administration’s gun control agenda from blocking the much needed Export Control Reform initiative (ECR). If our industry had been included in the ECR initiative as planned before politics took the place of logic, the registration requirement and associated onerous fees would no longer be a problem.
Your voice is needed now more than ever. Call your U.S. Representative at 202-225-3121and U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121 urge them to support Rep. Collin Peterson’s (D-Minn.) Resolution, (H. Res. 829) that demands the Obama administration complete ECR and publish the proposed rules to transfer the licensing of commercial and sporting firearms and ammunition products to the Department of Commerce (which does not require registration or payment of a fee).
In addition, tell your U.S. Representative and Senators that DDTC must stop imposing onerous registration fees on small businesses that do not export products. Tell them to support efforts by House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) to include language in the Fiscal Year 2017 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations to address this issue.
