Kutak Rock, LLP, Sponsors 2018 SHOT Show University at Bronze Level

Joseph Kavan - SHOT Show University Speaker - Kutak Rock SponsorNEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is pleased to announce that Kutak Rock, LLP, will be returning as a Bronze-level sponsor for the 2018 SHOT Show University. Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, Kutak Rock, LLP, is a national law firm with locations from coast to coast providing counsel on firearms, corporate law, litigation, intellectual property, environmental law and other areas.

“We are fortunate to have the professionals from this prestigious law firm lend their support and insight to SHOT Show University,” said John McNamara, NSSF Senior Director, Retailer Services. “The feedback from our retailers and range owners who had the pleasure of working with them at last year’s seminar has been overwhelmingly positive, and we would expect nothing less this year.”

Taking place Monday, Jan. 22, the day before the 2018 SHOT Show opens, SHOT Show University is NSSF’s premier learning experience for retailers and range owners, providing business owners of all experience levels ways to improve their businesses. The forum is comprised of four learning tracks: Range, Compliance, Retailer 101 (designed for more newly established FFLs) and the Master’s Class (created for more veteran firearms retailer owners). Attendees can participate in one complete track or select from sessions across any of the four to customize their experience. A wide variety of industry and business experts lead the various discussions, with topics that range from ATF inspection preparation and technology that drives customer engagement to NFA compliance, new media marketing techniques and how data collection and analysis can help small businesses thrive.

Kutak Rock will be presenting the session “Dealer Liability for Firearms-Related Injuries” as the opening presentation of the Retailer 101 track. During this session, attendees will gain a greater understanding of their liability for injuries resulting from a firearm or ammunition they’ve sold. Included will be an overview of the current statutes protecting dealers, as well as proposed local, state and federal legislation that can either help or adversely affect dealers. There will also be discussions of current case law involving dealers where dealer liability has been attempted, as well as ways every FFL today can minimize and manage the exposure and potential exposure for this type of litigation.

“The National Firearms Industry Group at Kutak Rock is comprised of industry enthusiasts and legal subject-matter authorities who are focused purely on the business needs of firearm and ammunition manufacturers, dealers, retailers and ranges,” said Joseph Kavan, the National Firearms Industry Group Leader of Kutak Rock.  “We are honored to be a sponsor and returning to the SHOT Show to present at SHOT Show University, and look forward to sharing experiences from around the industry that help firearms businesses understand the prevailing winds of laws and regulations, defend against business threats and improve day-to-day operational issues.”

Registration for the 2018 SHOT Show is now open. Buyers and range owners successfully registering to attend the show can then register to participate in SHOT Show University and other events. View the full SHOT Show University agenda and speaker lineup here.
