Final Numbers Show Industry, Consumers Embraced First Annual National Shooting Sports Month

National Shooting Sports Month LogoAs with any event, we conduct post-event surveys and analyze a wide range of data to gauge how well that event went and how we can enhance the customer experience. This is true of SHOT Show, our Industry and Import/Export Summits and the numerous other events we host throughout the year. However, there were perhaps no data we looked forward to taking a look at more than that following our first annual National Shooting Sports Month.

We were not disappointed. National Shooting Sports Month, the first nationwide event designed specifically to celebrate the shooting sports and enhance the connections between today’s shooters and the firearms retailers and range owners in their areas, was a success. Hundreds of retailers and ranges held events and promotions. Thousands of people participated in an array of shooting sports. A comprehensive media campaign reached millions and raised awareness:

  • Nearly 200 news outlets picked up the story, with an estimated outreach of more than 17 million readers.
  • 230 news articles published in August mentioned or promoted National Shooting Sports Month.
  • More than 8 million people were reached through NSSF’s email campaign that spread the word about events, sweepstakes and more, keeping momentum for the shooting sports going throughout the entire month.
  • More than 3 million people were reached through social media, with nearly 40,000 direct engagements.

Our first National Shooting Sports Month was just that — the first one. While our next National Shooting Sports month is almost a year away, NSSF is already planning for a bigger month next year. We encourage all our manufacturers, retailers and ranges to mark their calendars for August 2018 now, and begin planning your budgets, events and sponsorships. Our sales team is here to help.
