Training Resources Available for Revised ATF Form 4473
In preparation to use the latest iteration of ATF Form 4473, NSSF encourages FFLs and their staff to review the updated training and resources available through NSSF.org. The Revised Form is available on ATF’s website and can be downloaded and printed for immediate use. NSSF reminds all FFLs that mandatory use of the Revised Form takes effect Saturday, April 1, 2023.
Please note that the entire Form, including instructions, must be printed and stored together. Hard copies of the Revised Form are available through the ATF Distribution Center. To download, select Forms and Applications and then scroll down to the 4473 Form.
TRAINING COURSE: How to Review and Complete the ATF Form 4473
From transfers to inspections to trace, ATF Form 4473 is a critical document for all firearms retailers. This course, Completing Form 4473 (2023 Version), is designed to take you step-by-step through a big-picture overview and then line-by-line through the nuances of completing each section of the new form.
During this three-module series, you will:
- Review the critical elements, use and purpose of the Form
- Identify common errors made by both buyers and sellers
- Identify how to correct those errors

The Form 4473 Overlay Guide is a plastic film template used as an overlay on a customer-completed 4473 that helps your staff, store compliance managers and other responsible persons ensure that all the questions on the form have been answered and answered in the correct way. The proper and consistent use of this overlay guide, as part of a comprehensive compliance program, can result in more accurate and complete records of sale as required by federal law.
