NSSF Members Amplify the ‘Own It? Respect It. Secure It.’ Initiative

In June, the National Shooting Sports Foundation unveiled the “Own It? Respect It. Secure It.” initiativeto amplify our industry’s long-standing commitment to firearm safety and build upon decades of successful public outreach and education.

We have worked tirelessly to provide firearm owners with educational resources and safety kits that help prevent accidents and unauthorized access to firearms. Our goal with the “Own It? Respect It. Secure It.” initiative is to work together as an industry to raise the public’s consciousness on the issue of firearm safety and responsibility, and encourage firearms owners to continually embrace the practice of proper handling, ownership and storage.

We’re proud to have support for this initiative from so many of our industry members. Our voices are stronger together, and we’re reinforcing an important message throughout the nation: Store your firearms responsibly.

Mossberg, another firearm industry leader, dedicated its latest ad to the “ORS” safety message, too. In addition to the “ORS” logo, Mossberg shares important information about firearm safety and provides links for further resources.

Range America, a training and firearms center in Paducah, Kentucky, has taken the firearm safety message on the road. They wrapped the Range America truck in the “Own It? Respect It. Secure It.” and Project ChildSafe logos.

Across the United States, we’ve also seen support from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and others agencies that oversee hunting in their states. These organizations help set the tone for sport shooting and hunting, and we applaud them for taking the time to provide the public with an important reminder about safe firearm handling and storage.

If you’re a firearm manufacturer, distributor, retailer, range owner, state commissioner or a member of the shooting sports industry and want to get involved in the “Own it? Respect it. Secure it.” initiative, please visit us at www.nssf.org/safety/ORS/ to get more information, download materials and help spread our genuine safety message.
