NSSF FFL Compliance Consultation Program Gets Results

“We just completed our first ATF inspection last week. We passed and were not told of anything for which we would be written up. In short, the site visit program WORKS.”

NSSF’s FFL Compliance Consultation Program is entering its second year of existence and already we are seeing the dramatic proof of the program’s effectiveness.

Jackie Gengler of Alaska Illusive Arms had participated in the program the first week of June last year.

Earlier in March 2013, ATF performed its first inspection of her business and Mrs. Gengler had this to say about the Compliance Consultation Program:

“We just completed our first ATF inspection last week. We passed and were not told of anything for which we would be written up. In short, the site visit program WORKS. We will happily be renewing our membership to help other FFLs get started right as well, as we appreciate your speaking up for all law-abiding gun owners during these turbulent political times.”

For those not familiar with the Compliance Program, NSSF has hired four retired ATF inspectors, each with more than 30 years of experience and with an extensive background of conducting thousands of ATF firearms retailer inspections, to come to our members’ stores for a day-long compliance audit. During this audit, the consultant will review your 4473 forms, your firearms inventory, your A&D books and store processes. Or if you are concerned about a certain portion of your business, the consultant will work with you to come up with a plan to review your areas of concern.

NSSF believes so strongly in this program, in its efforts to help educate and protect our retailer members, that we heavily subsidize the audits, paying for all travel and lodging expenses, food, car rentals and half of our consultants’ fee, asking our retailer members to pay only $499 for the day-long visit.

William Laughridge, president of Cylinder and Slide Inc., had this to say about the Compliance Program and the price:

“I have generated a complete compliance manual for my staff and ways to implement it as well as a continuing set of checks to be sure that every item is being taken care of properly on the advice of your consultant. The $499 charge for this service is a steal for any dealer.”
