NICS Expert Joann Garrison to Teach 2017 SHOT Show Retailer Seminar

If our 24/7 Retailer Hotline is any indication, questions about NICS compliance and processes can crop up at any time. This has been especially since the launch of the New NICS late in the summer of 2016, and one of the primary reasons we asked Joann Garrison to teach the Retailer Seminar “Ask the FBI/NICS.”

Garrison began her career with the FBI in 1997 as a fingerprint examiner. She joined the National Instant Background Check System (NICS) in 2002. With the NICS Section she has served as a Legal Instruments Examiner and Region Coordinator, and she is currently a Liaison Specialist assigned to the NICS Business Unit (NBU). In that capacity, Garrison has traveled throughout the country, providing training, assistance and support on NICS, federal prohibitions for firearm purchases and the importance of information sharing to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Currently she focuses on providing support to federal firearm licensees (FFLs) who utilize the NICS to perform firearm background checks for firearms purchases. Over the span of her career she has spoken to a wide variety of audiences, including judges, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, tribal entities, prosecutorial entities and FFLs, at conferences and gatherings throughout the United States.

The session “Ask the FBI/NICS” will take place Tuesday, January 17 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Grab a sandwich and head to this session to have Garrison and her colleagues answer your questions about the New NICS, the NICS E-Check, and NICS processing. You’ll also hear the questions other retailers are asking, allowing you to prepare for similar scenarios in your own store, and you’ll discover a wealth of helpful tips and resources direct from those working closest with NICS.

You can reserve your seat at this session once you have successfully registered to attend the 2017 SHOT Show. The seminar is $25 for both NSSF Members and non-members, and all FFLs are encouraged to attend. Simply log in to your dashboard at SHOTShow.org and add this seminar to your shopping cart. You may also view all our other Retailer Seminars scheduled for the week, see information on sessions for SHOT Show University and LEEP sessions and reserve your attendance for those sessions that also suit your needs.
