Massachusetts Committee to Hear Numerous Pieces of Flawed Legislation
On Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security will be holding a public hearing on bills that will further erode the rights of law-abiding gun owners under the guise of reducing gun trafficking and gang violence.
H2293 and H2340 attempt to resurrect the discredited idea of creating a ballistics database for every gun sold in the Commonwealth. New York and Maryland are the only two states to implement this technology, costing taxpayers millions of dollars without solving a single crime.
S1354 will attempt to further regulate firearms owners and dealers to the point of forcing them out of business. Among other things, it would set stringent standards for storage of firearms by dealers, limit gun purchases of law-abiding citizens and implement a total statewide gun registration system.
S1383, titled An Act Relative to Preventing Illegal Trafficking of Firearms, is anything but that and seeks to restrict the purchases of law-abiding gun owners to "one-gun-a-month." Not only would S1383 be regulating a constitutional right, but also the ability of private citizens with licenses (very extensive licensing process) to sell up to four firearms a year to other licensed gun owners.
