RANGE CONSUMPTION REPORTS

Semi-annual reports monitoring range activity and business trends in the United States

What are Range Consumption Reports?

Like any other business, ranges need information that will help them gauge their performance against the industry. Range Consumption Reports will help range managers do just that. They are semi-annual reports measuring key consumption variables based on surveys of ranges nationwide.

"Consumption" refers to end-user services such as prices charged, rounds sold, customers and visitors serviced, programs offered, etc. Anything that is quantifiable in the range business.

The reports measure variables such as:

  • Average public price charged per round
  • Number of rounds sold per quarter
  • Number of targets thrown
  • Overall performance (rounds sold increasing, decreasing)
  • Number of indoor / outdoor shooting positions available
  • Average price charged per hour
  • Frequency of customers / visitors
  • Number and types of programs available at the range
  • Maximum shooting distances
  • Number and frequency of competitions

These variables are collected for all range types: Sporting Clays / 5-stand, Trap, Skeet, Rifle and Handgun.

What are the BENEFITS of Range Consumption Reports?

Every range could benefit by this type of information. And the best part is that the information is 100% free to all ranges that participate in the survey.

This means that a range simply fills out a quick survey. The results are aggregated with hundreds of other ranges across the county. The information supplied by any range remains absolutely confidential. In exchange for participating, the range is sent the report automatically. From there they can compare their response to the industry.

Business data like this does not exist anywhere else. It is an exclusive service of the NSSF / NASR for all range types, indoor, outdoor, public and private.

These semi-annual reports will not replace the national range surveys conducted every other year by the NASR. Instead these surveys will compliment them by providing ranges with current information throughout the year.

How to obtain your copy of the Range Consumption Reports:

We encourage any range that would like to participate and to receive the reports to send their contact information (especially e-mail address since the reports are conducted online) to the NSSF Research Department c/o Range Consumption Survey. Include Contact name, Range Name, Address, Phone and E-mail. The survey will be sent directly to the e-mail provided as will the final annual report. You may use the electronic response form below to submit your information (range location will be subject to verification)

Hundreds of ranges have already signed up to participate in the survey.

Only summary reports will be available to the public or ranges that do not participate.
