Firearm Ownership and Sport Shooting Participation in the U.S. in 2024 (2025 Edition)

A 104-page report based on a study conducted by Responsive Management for the NSSF to determine regional and national participation in target and sport shooting in 2024. This study, conducted in March 2025, is based on 3,611 completed questionnaires collected from online and telephone surveys of U.S. residents ages 18 and older. Includes historical information from 2014 -2024.

More than 52.7 million people enjoy sport and target shooting activities in the United States.

The report provides trend data from 2014 – 2024 on overall participation as well as category data for handgun, rifle, modern sporting rifle, shotgun, and clay target sports participation. Also includes data on long-range shooting and 3-gun participation in addition to information on indoor and on outdoor shooting.
