The Disgusting Responses from Gun Control Allies After National Guardswoman Murdered

By Larry Keane

The reverberations across the country after a U.S. National Guardswoman was murdered (active tense) have been far and wide. An Afghan national, brought to the United States during former President Joe Biden’s botched and hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan, allegedly drove from Washington state across the country, walked up to two unarmed National Guardsmen stationed at a Metro stop station in the heart of Washington, D.C., pulled out a revolver and shot both. Tragically one, 20-year-old Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, succumbed to her injuries and died at a hospital shortly after. The second Guardsman, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, is “fighting for his life,” but seems to be making slow progress.

The alleged gunman is in custody. Nearby National Guardsmen heard the shots fired, ran towards the danger and together put a stop to the shooting and apprehended the suspect.

Prayers have poured in for Beckstrom and her family, for the continued recovery of Wolfe and for immense gratitude as well for the work done by the National Guard and all law enforcement for keeping innocent Americans safe.

In a sad and sick twist, however, many — including elected officials and gun control allies — have offered disgusting remarks following the tragedy that completely remove any guilt or connection to the alleged murder and instead blame “gun violence” and even President Donald Trump for what happened.

Denying Reality

What facts are known at this time include that the alleged gunman drove across the country and used a revolver to harm and kill National Guardsmen stationed in Washington, D.C., to help reduce crime. There were several distinct actions taken by the alleged murderer to carry out his crime.

The responses, by some, were jaw-dropping in their inability to recognize a horrific criminal committed a shockingly cruel crime.

“I’m devastated to learn of the passing of Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, a member of the West Virginia National Guard. She was only twenty years old,” New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani posted on social media.

Similarly, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) used similar talking points. “Heartbroken over the news of the passing of Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, a National Guard member who tragically lost her life in a horrific shooting in DC,” Rep. Omar posted.

Specialist Beckstrom was 20 years old. She had an entire life to live ahead of her. She didn’t “pass away” in a hospital bed, surrounded by loved ones, after a long fight against a terminal illness. She didn’t pass away peacefully at night due to natural causes. She was gunned down in a clearly pre-mediated attack by a deranged individual with ulterior motives.

Let’s also not forget, Mayor-elect Mandani believes “violence is an artificial construction,” wants to further cut law enforcement in New York City leaving residents in greater danger from criminal actions and posted in 2022 that “We need to ban all guns.”

For her part, Rep. Omar is firmly on the side of supporting more gun control while taking it easy on criminals.

Blaming Others

In one of the more disturbing trends in public statements following the heinous crime, several people cast blame for Beckstrom’s murder on other individuals — including President Donald Trump.

Brady United Against Gun Violence President Kris Brown was among them.

“I wrote back in Sept in [the Washington Post] that the Trump administration was turning our nation’s capital into a tinderbox – even baiting armed violence,” she wrote after the shooting.

To be clear, members of the National Guard have been stationed in Washington, D.C., for a stretch to help local law enforcement and to cut down on rampant crime in the city, protecting innocent residents and visitors. Mayor Muriel Bowser thanked President Trump for the assistance and stated it is helping to make the city safer. In addition, the two Guardsmen shot were unarmed at the time, simply standing watch at a Metro stop.

The responses to Brown’s social media post are crystal clear on what people think of her assessment.

“The guy drove all the ways from Washington State and used a revolver to do this. You’ve told us over and over again that you don’t have a problem with revolvers,” one poster said.

“Is homicide up or down in [Washington,  D.C.] since the national guard came? Its halved,” another posted, stating a fact.

A third agreed, saying, “Enforcing laws and protecting the innocent is now ‘baiting armed violence’?”

Regarding the crime in the nation’s capital since the National Guard was called to help, the facts are clear in case Brown and her allies need any clarification.

As pointed out by another social media poster, the National Guard was deployed to Washington, D.C., on August 11. Between August 11 and November 26 (when the tragedy occurred), there had been 24 homicides in D.C. “In the identical time period last year, there were 61. The national guard have absolutely saved lives in DC,” Logan Dobson posted.

Honor and Courage

There is one person — one — to blame for the tragedy that took place in Washington, D.C., just one day before families all across the country gathered together to celebrate Thanksgiving. That alleged murderer was apprehended and will face justice for his actions.

The National Guard members who are bravely and selflessly serving to protect innocent Americans should be rightfully hailed for their courage.

Those who remove culpability from the criminal altogether, or shift blame to others, are doing a disgusting disservice to justice. Using this tragedy to push even more gun control — as many have done — after the alleged murderer used a revolver, are proving their stripes as firmly on the side of taking political potshots above knowing the facts. It is now standard procedure for the gun control lobby to exploit any tragedy, regardless of the facts, to advance their anti-Second Amendment agenda.

The murder of Specialist Beckstrom is a tragedy and we pray for the comfort of her family, as well as the continued recovery of Staff Sgt. Wolfe. They, and their colleagues, are truly worthy of admiration and praise for all they do.
