Top Five Ways to Bring Project ChildSafe to Your Community

During the 2026 SHOT Show®, Project ChildSafe encourages attendees to bring firearm safety to their communities and share what firearm safety means to them

LAS VEGAS — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, and its Project ChildSafe® initiative announced today that Project ChildSafe representatives will be at SHOT Show to share secure storage resources and the “Top Five” ways attendees can bring firearm safety to their communities.

“Secure storage — including the use of gun locks — is the best way to help prevent firearm-related accidents, misuse and suicides. That’s why Project ChildSafe was formed over 27 years ago, and why NSSF is proud to host Project ChildSafe at the SHOT Show again in 2026,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO and Chairman of the Project Childsafe Foundation.

One of the most frequently asked questions about Project ChildSafe, especially among members of the firearm and outdoor industries, as well as individual gun owners, is, “How can we be involved?” Project ChildSafe’s presence at SHOT Show this year has been specifically designed to answer that question. Attendees, influencers and media are encouraged to visit the Project ChildSafe Booth (#40148) to learn more and take action on any and all of these five options:

  1. Engage with our Project ChildSafe In Your Communities map by pinning your hometown and helping us bring the program to your area. This initiative collaborates closely with local leaders and organizations to address each community’s unique needs and help spread firearm safety messages through trusted local channels.
  2. Sign up to be a Project ChildSafe supporter, then visit and use the tools available at the Project ChildSafe “Supporter’s Hub.”
  3. Check the Project ChildSafe website to see if your local law enforcement agency is a Project ChildSafe lock distribution partner, and if not, encourage them to sign up.
  4. Follow, Like and Share Project ChildSafe on Instagram, Facebook, and X.
  5. Donate to Project ChildSafe. Your gift will provide free firearm safety kits that will encourage secure storage practices and be distributed through law enforcement and other community partnerships across the United States—41 million and counting.

“I invite all SHOT show attendees to visit the booth to learn more about the program and how we can all work together to be the leading voice on firearm safety and help make our communities safer,” said Bartozzi.

About Project ChildSafe

NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, launched Project ChildSafe in 1999 (originally as Project HomeSafe). Since 1999, the program has provided more than 41 million free firearm safety kits that include gun locks to firearm owners in all 50 states through partnerships with thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country. That’s in addition to the more than 70 million free locking devices manufacturers have included, and continue to include, with new firearms sold since 1998. While helping to prevent accidents among children is a focus, Project ChildSafe is intended to help adults practice greater firearm safety in the home. More information is available at projectchildsafe.org.
