Wally Nelson Joins Speaker Lineup for 2016 SHOT Show University

We are pleased to announce that former ATF Deputy Assistant Director Wally Nelson will be hosting several SHOT Show University sessions. A member of NSSF’s FFL Compliance Consultant Team, Nelson’s SHOT Show University presentations are among the most well attended by both new retailers and veteran store owners.

Nelson is a retired ATF Deputy Assistant Director with more than 30 years of experience to his credit. In the Director role he managed all regulatory firearms programs including the development and monitoring of firearms inspection programs, licensing, NFA, imports, tracings and regulations, as well as the firearms technology branch. He retired from ATF in October 2005. For the last nine years, Nelson has brought his expertise in firearms laws and regulations to industry members as a private consultant. In addition, as a member of NSSF’s FFL Compliance Consultant Team, he has conducted FFL site visits to review required records and sample firearms inventories for hundreds of retailers, in addition to providing employee training and developing compliance plans.

Nelson will be making three joint presentations along with another of NSSF’s FFL Compliance Consultant Team members, Harry McCabe. All three presentations are part of the Compliance learning tract. The first presentation will provide tips and insights that help retailer’s error-proof their Form 4473s, including the logic behind the questions asked on the form. The second session deals with the retailers’ bound Acquisition and Disposition books and how to prevent common mistakes to these important recording documents that can result in citations and fines. The pair’s final session seeks to help FFLs successfully survive an ATF inspection, including he process an inspection follows, what a store needs to do to be prepared, and staff training. All three presentations will include a question and answer session at their conclusions.

The 2016 SHOT Show University will take place January 18, the day before the show opens. Registration for this event is now open to retailers and exhibitors whose applications to attend the show have been approved. Premium Retailer members are permitted one complimentary ticket to the event. Tickets for all other NSSF member and additional tickets for Premium Retailer members are $250. Tickets for non-member retailers and exhibitors are available for $500. The full course description for the 2016 SHOT Show University is available here.
