SHOT Show Supports Project ChildSafe

Revenues from the SHOT Show, the firearms industry’s annual trade show recently concluded in Las Vegas, help support many NSSF programs, including Project ChildSafe, the nationwide firearms safety education program.

Law enforcement departments everywhere in the United States can receive free shipments of the program’s firearm safety kits that include a cable-style gun lock and safety brochure. The kits must be distributed free of charge to gun owners, as local police departments have done recently in Wisconsin, reported in this Wisconsin News story, and in Colorado, as reported here in the Aurora Sentinel.

Project ChildSafe gun locks are easily recognizable because of their bright yellow casing. In this Missoula Independent story, we noticed a photograph of  Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer holding a rifle with what certainly looks to be a Project ChildSafe gun lock installed on it in.

Project ChildSafe has distributed 35 million firearm safety kits to law enforcement departments in all 50 states and in the U.S. Territories. Police and sheriff departments interested in obtaining firearm safety kits can learn more at www.projectchildsafe.org. For general firearm safety information, visit www.nssf.org.

Thanks to Project ChildSafe and other firearm safety initiatives, accidental firearms fatalities are at all-time low levels and involve fewer than 1 percent of all accidental fatalities in the United States.
