NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, provides the most up to date U.S. firearm production facts and statistics for its members in its Firearm Production in the United States report.

This report, which includes the Firearm Import and Export Data 2023 Edition (reporting 2021 data), compiles the most up to date information based on data sourced from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF’s) Annual Firearms Manufacturing and Export Reports (AFMER).

This report provides the most recent data available and is an update to the 2022 edition which reported 1990–2020 data. The 2023 edition is a comprehensive overview of firearm production trends over a 31-year period from 1991 – 2021. The production data is based primarily on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF’s) Annual Firearms Manufacturers and Export Reports (AFMER). This edition of the Firearms Production Report also includes ammunition manufacturing trends as sourced from the Census Bureau’s 2021 Annual Survey of Manufacturers (ASM) and firearm import/export statistics compiled from the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) to provide a more accurate picture of the historical production made available to the U.S. market.
