Remembering Sen. Ted Stevens and His Support for Project ChildSafe

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has a lost a good friend in former Senator Ted Stevens, who, according to reports, did not survive a plane crash yesterday evening near Dillingham, Alaska.

Senator Stevens, 86, was a staunch supporter of hunters, shooters, anglers and conservation. As chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, he played a major role in securing federal funding for NSSF’s Project HomeSafe/Project ChildSafe program. This support, along with additional funding from the firearms industry, has allowed this firearm safety education initiative to distribute over 35 million gun lock safety kits free of charge to gun owners in all 50 states and in the U.S. Territories. The program continues to remind gun owners to safely store their firearms in order to help prevent gun-related accidents, particularly among children.

The staff of NSSF extends its sympathy to Senator Stevens’ family and friends.
