NSSF Welcomes Liberty Firearms Institute to Five-Star Family

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is pleased to announce that Liberty Firearms Institute has been awarded the organization’s Five-Star rating for range excellence.

Liberty Firearms Institute 5-Star RangeLocated in Johnstown, Colorado, a town of nearly 10,000 just 41 miles north of Denver, Liberty Firearms Institute opened in May 2016. This exceptional, family-owned and -operated facility sprawls over 100,000 square feet. Firearms shooters can take advantage of 52 lanes across six bays that permit shooting at 25, 50 and 100 yards, while archery shooters also have an eight-lane 45-yard range. Participants in both sports are fully accommodated when they visit the range. For firearms enthusiasts, there’s an abundant selection of rental firearms, including a selection of full autos and the range’s biggest draw, its .45-70 Gov’t. five-barrel Gatling gun. Complimentary safety and shooting equipment such as eye and ear protection, lead sleds and shooting bags are also provided. Archers can practice with longbows, crossbows and compounds on 3-D targets. Both sports also have their own large, generously stocked pro shops.

An intense focus on firearms education and community safety is immediately clear to anyone who visits Liberty Firearms Institute. Numerous classrooms equipped with smartboards are where a wide selection of classes — from youth firearms education and concealed carry to advanced tactical skills and specialty curriculums for women and families — take place. Classes are provided by world-class instructors from Liberty’s professional in-house training company Makhaira Group, with the occasional guest instructor brought in for special sessions. There is onsite firearms storage for the range’s members via 262 fortified personal safes that are further secured in the facility’s built-in vault room. As an added method of security and safety to their patrons, Liberty Firearms Institute requires a one-time background check and safety video for anyone using the facility for the first time

“This is a stunning facility,” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Range Services. The Schmeeckle family had a clearly defined vision when they created this range, and they carried it through to reality without missing a single detail. From the inventory and staff to its membership program, its dedication to community safety and firearms owner education and even the carefully designed lighting that produces an exceptional ambience throughout the facility, this range has it all.”

“As the population grows and the ease of outdoor shooting decreases, Liberty Firearms Institute is proud to meet Colorado’s increasing demands,” said Grant Schmeekle, Managing Partner. “Our goal has always been to provide a welcoming, customer service-based shopping experience for the community, promote education at all levels and create a safe environment in our ranges for everyone to enjoy.

NSSF’s highly respected Star-Rating Range Program works to encourage ranges of all sizes and locations to excel. Applying for rating requires answering a comprehensive questionnaire and business owner self-evaluation of the facilities, staff, community outreach, and other criteria. Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-Star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF Member ranges that meet a Three-Star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings.
