NSSF Debuts Firearms Industry Health Advantage

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is pleased to announce the debut of its Firearms Industry Health Advantage plan.

Available to employers and employees in the industry, the Firearms Industry Health Advantage allows businesses to upgrade their in-place employee benefits with a low-cost, non-traditional benefit program. Designed to save both time and money when non-life-threatening minor illnesses and injuries occur, the Health Advantage Telehealth utilizes a wealth of board-certified doctors to diagnose and treat patients 24/7 via telephone or the live-chat features on computers, tablets and other smart devices. Telemedicine is finding a more common place in employer health care benefit plans. In recent years, companies have recognized how effectively it addresses the challenges of health care access and cost.

“It’s not always convenient to leave home or work to visit a doctor. Technology-enabled healthcare gives you access to affordable, convenient, quality healthcare, anytime, from anywhere,” explained Deb Kenney, NSSF Vice President, Human Resources & Administration. “An online request for a consultation to the Health Advantage via its Telehealth portal will have a board-certified doctor licensed in your state on the phone to them in minutes, working with you or that employee to diagnose the symptoms and receive the treatment needed in a timely, expedient manner. Best of all, the Telehealth consultation didn’t cost you or that employee anything.”

A number of other valuable benefits are included automatically with the Health Advantage supplemental add-on, including:

  • Vision, dental and hearing-aid discounts (depending on plan)
  • Prescription and diabetes supplies discounts
  • Special pricing on vitamins
  • 24/7 registered nurse hotline
  • One-on-one health advocacy support for medical- and insurance-related issues
  • Medical Bill SaverTM, a feature that allows healthcare billing experts to negotiate possible reductions in out-of-pocket medical costs
  • Consultations for anyone and their family members enrolled, regardless of age

“Today’s insurance policies, whether privately obtained, employer-provided or part of the government-enabled Affordable Health Care Act, are difficult to navigate for even the savviest, most well-informed individual,” said Kenney. “Telehealth solves the three biggest healthcare challenges: limited access, increased cost and inconsistent quality of care. It’s a way to customize your health insurance plan, designed to be affordable, accessible, money-saving and time-saving—all the things a benefit should be.”
