NSSF Announces 2020 Hunting Heritage Trust Grant Recipients
NEWTOWN, Conn. — NSSF®, the firearm industry trade association, is pleased to announce that it has selected seven recipients to receive a portion of 2020’s $100,000 grant allotment provided by the NSSF Hunting Heritage Trust®. The recipients of and the projects to which the grants will be applied include:
- Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership — $10,000 to work in partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to conduct recruitment, retention reactivation (R3) events in Colorado to engage Hispanic families and individuals in hunting and shooting sports.
- Ladies Adventure Camp Experience (L.A.C.E.) — $10,000 to expand the L.A.C.E. mentoring program for women interested in hunting and using firearms within a safe and nurturing environment while developing their outdoor skills.
- Hoodneck, Inc. — $10,000 to host Camp Hoodneck events that provide firearm training and education to underserved communities and work to eliminate the stigma connected with legal firearm ownership.
- Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) — $15,000 to support hosting NSSF +ONESM Movement and QDMA’s Field to Fork and Learn to Hunt seminars for firearm industry professionals and communicate the processes and results of each to be replicated throughout the industry.
- Delta Waterfowl — $15,000 to support operation of 36 university-level hunting programs that introduce hunting to more than 900 future wildlife management professionals.
- Union Sportsmen’s Alliance — $20,000 to formulate and implement a recruitment campaign, backed by NSSF’s +ONE Movement messaging, that motivates union members to introduce 1,000 youth and adults to hunting and the shooting sports.
- USA Clay Target League — $20,000 to support programs to add 13,000 student athletes to school-sponsored clay target shooting sport teams.
“Keeping our hunting and shooting heritage alive requires grassroots efforts that focus on innovative ways to reach traditional as well as nontraditional audiences. Improving access to and participation in hunting and welcoming those who want to get involved in the shooting sports are critical to the future of these pastimes,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “We are pleased to see so many organizations passionate about having more people take part in the proud traditions of hunting and the shooting sports in this country, and we are honored to be a part of helping them succeed through these grants.”
The 2020 grant funds are the second to be released from the $1 million fund established in October 2018 as the NSSF Hunting Heritage Trust. The grant was funded equally by NSSF and the Hunting Heritage Trust. This first-of-its-kind grant program works directly to support NSSF’s mission of promoting, protecting and preserving hunting and the shooting sports. It is designed to distribute funds for 10 consecutive years to organizations meeting eligibility requirements and intending to use the funds to support recruitment, retention and reactivation programs, known collectively as R3 efforts.
