LAS VEGAS — There was excitement in the air this past weekend at Las Vegas’ Clark County Shooting Complex, where 30 shooters gathered to take part in the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF’s) inaugural Shooting Sports Fantasy Camp. Modeled after similar programs run by NASCAR and Major League Baseball, wherein attendees get a chance to experience what it takes to be a pro driver or pitcher, this first Fantasy Camp for firearms enthusiasts ended with rave reviews from the shooters, their pro instructors and the highly professional range staff.

“We knew when this event sold out immediately that we were onto something big,” said Chris Dolnack, NSSF Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “We are always looking for ways to connect the industry with our customers, to show the public that shooting sports are on par with other major league sports and the safe and responsible use of our products.”

NSSF made sure that “fantasy” wasn’t just a catchphrase. Not only were camp guests wowed by the personal instruction provided by top shooting pros Jessie Duff, K.C. Eusebio, Julie Golob, Jerry and Kay Miculek and Dianna and Ryan Muller, as part of their camp “tuition” the guests were treated to a three-night stay at Las Vegas’ Aliante Hotel + Casino + Spa, all meals from arrival to departure, transportation to and from McCarran Airport, as much ammo as they could send downrange for the weekend, a bevy of new guns to try, evening cocktail receptions and a swag bag full of the hottest shooting gear on the market.

“It is awesome,” said camper Georgiann Pharis. “I had expectations, but it has far exceeded any expectation I ever had.” And she added, “When [the pros] ride to the range on the bus with you, that says a lot to me. They’re not above you. They’re here on our level showing us how to get to their level. That’s a big plus.”

The event received major support from sponsors. “Special thanks goes to our sponsors, Presenting sponsor FIME Group/Arex, Gold sponsor LWRCI, Silver sponsors PolyCase Ammunition, Ruger, SIG SAUER and Taurus, and Bronze sponsors Hornady Ammunition, Winchester Ammunition, Federal Premium Ammunition, Kahr Firearms Group and HIVIZ Sight Systems,” said Dolnack. “Their support contributed significantly to the success of this first camp, and the feedback from our guests tells us their involvement was one they truly appreciated.”

NSSF also thanks these other supporting companies that provided products and giveaways at the event: Blade-Tech, BLACKHAWK!, Bobbie Weiner’s Camouflage Face Paint, Camillus, Comp-Tac, Crimson Trace, H.H. Brown, Howard Leight by Honeywell, Hogue, Hoppe’s, Leupold, Luminox, MTM Special OPS, Swarovski Optik and Troy Industries.

NSSF is currently considering additional fantasy camps. For more information, including a contact form that will allow us to provide details once a new camp has been organized, visit www.shootingsportsfantasycamp.com.
