Harry McCabe Joins Speaker Lineup for 2016 SHOT Show University
We are pleased to announce that former ATF Deputy Assistant Director Harry McCabe will be hosting several SHOT Show University sessions. A member of NSSF’s FFL Compliance Consultant Team, McCabe is also a frequent contributor to NSSF’s news section for retailers.
McCabe retired from ATF in 2012, after more than 36 years of service. He began his career as an Investigator in Raleigh, North Carolina, and he conducted numerous firearms and explosives inspections in both North and South Carolina until being transferred to Bureau Headquarters in 1983. During his career, McCabe was Area Supervisor in Detroit and a branch chief in Headquarters. In 1998, he became Director, Industry Operations of the Nashville Field Division where for 12 years he directed all firearms inspection activities in Tennessee and Alabama. In 2010, Harry became Deputy Assistant Director for Field Operations where he was responsible for the entire firearms regulatory policy and inspection program nationwide until his retirement. He joined NSSF’s FFL Compliance Consultant Team in 2013.
McCabe will be making three joint presentations along with another of NSSF’s FFL Compliance Consultant Team members, former ATF Deputy Director Wally Nelson. All three presentations are part of the Compliance learning tract. The first session will provide tips and insights that help retailer’s error-proof their Form 4473s, including the logic behind the questions asked on the form. The second session deals with the retailers’ bound Acquisition and Disposition books and how to prevent common mistakes to these important recording documents that can result in citations and fines. The pair’s final session seeks to help FFLs successfully survive an ATF inspection, including he process an inspection follows, what a store needs to do to be prepared and staff training. All three presentations will include a question and answer session at their conclusions.
The 2016 SHOT Show University will take place January 18, the day before the show opens. Registration for this event is now open to retailers and exhibitors whose applications to attend the show have been approved. Premium Retailer members are permitted one complimentary ticket to the event. Tickets for all other NSSF member and for Premium Retailer members wishing to purchase tickets in addition their complimentary seat are $250.
