Free Videos for Teachers on Firearm Safety and Conservation
The National Shooting Sports Foundation has emailed its annual offer to teachers to receive–free of charge–its Conservation and Firarms Safety Education DVDs. The campaign is off to a fast start, with nearly 3,000 orders received so far.
NSSF believes all teachers and their students, whether in public, private or home schools, can benefit from the important messages in these videos. The Conservation DVD and Firearm Safety DVD can be ordered online, and the three separate videos contained on each DVD can be previewed online as well.
The Conservation DVD contains videos that educate students and teachers about the hunter’s role in wildlife conservation. The video “Wildlife for Tomorrow” is geared to elementary school students. The two other videos–“Unendangered Species” and “What They Say About Hunting”–are for middle school-age and early high school-age students. The former discusses species that were once endangered and have been restored to abundance such as the wild turkey and white-tailed deer. The latter video takes a close look at hunting and its relevance today using a pro-and-con debate.
The Firearm Safety DVD offers these three videos–“McGruff the Crime Dog on Gun Safety” for elementary grades, “It’s Your Call: Playing It Safe Around Guns” for middle schoolers and “Firearms Safety Depends on You,” which covers the ten commandments of gun safety for all audiences. The first two titles help teach students how to respond if should they encounter a firearm in an unsupervised situation at school, at home or at a friend’s home.
