Final NSSF Retailer Compliance Seminar Closes Out Successful 2015 Education Program

NEWTOWN, Conn.—Just one Retailer Compliance Seminar remains in the last 2015 lineup of important day-long educational summits the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) hosts for firearms retailers across the country. This year NSSF hosted 12 seminars that saw hundreds of retailers in attendance learning about the latest in regulations, new laws and compliance issues. The final 2015 Retailer Compliance Seminar is scheduled for September 22 near Philadelphia at the Crowne Plaza Reading Hotel in Reading, Pennsylvania, and attendance is free to NSSF members. This final seminar brings to close the 2015 schedule of cross-country seminars, many of which were expanded to add a half-day of marketing and business planning workshops to the core compliance curriculum. That core curriculum focuses on compliance best practices with ATF Form 4473, acquisition and disposition firearms record books, straw purchase awareness training, physical store security, online and gun show sales procedures. The course also helps attendees understand what they’ll experience during an on-site ATF inspection and how to work cooperatively with their inspector. This year, seven seminars benefitted from special guest speakers from the FBI’s NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) division, who provided insight into how the NICS system functions.

“ATF compliance is the No. 1 topic our retailers tell us they take the time, every time, to learn more about, so it’s gratifying to see such a great turn out time and time again at our Retailer Compliance Seminars,” said Patrick Shay, NSSF Director, Retail Development. “It is their best opportunity to interact face-to-face with the professionals from ATF, FBI/NICS and NSSF staff, including those members of our ATF Compliance Consultant Team, and these seminars also provide a chance for our dealers to exchange ideas and insights with others. We’re looking forward to a great turnout for our final seminar in Philadelphia, as well as additional growth in these forums next year.”

NSSF’s Retailer Compliance Seminars received significant industry support, both by providing content crucial to these sessions and in sponsorship support. Those companies supporting the Retailer Compliance Seminars and NSSF’s mission of promoting, protecting and preserving hunting and the shooting sports include Smith & Wesson, Winchester, Howard Leight, the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers, Celerant Technologies, iTech Digital, Camillus, Joseph Chiarello & Co., Inc. and RapidPOS.
