John has more than 25 years of hands-on experience and has published a variety of industry articles and guides related to physical security and operational excellence specific to firearms dealers and is a respected speaker at security seminars and conventions across the country. John is also a Certified Business Consultant for the Small Business Administration and an independent consultant for the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
Karrie Christen is a brain based marketing specialist who loves helping established small businesses get all the traffic they need into a high converting marketing funnel or campaign. She is the leader in marketing highly censored industries and has a personal love for the firearms industry. Karrie is the owner of The Client Attraction Formula and a co-founder of The FFL Consultants. She is also the author of two upcoming books including “Stop Shooting Your Marketing in The Foot – a Guide For Retail & Range FFLs” which will be released in January of 2020.
Joseph Kavan is a senior partner with the law firm of Kutak Rock’s Omaha office and the founder and chair of the firm’s National Firearms Practice Group. He possesses a deep expertise in the understanding, analysis and application of the statutes, rules, regulations and interpretations of the National Firearms Act, the Gun Control Act of 1968, the Arms Export Control Act, the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) regulations and state laws and local ordinances related to firearms dealers, gunsmiths, manufacturers of firearms and ammunitions and firearms importer and exporters. Kavan represents entities involved in the firearms industry in their licensure, regulation, structure, organization, financing and ongoing compliance and regularly interacts with state and federal regulators including the ATF, U.S. State Department and U.S. Department of Commerce, as well as the offices of various states’ attorneys general and local enforcement authorities.
Renee Lewis recently joined the National Shooting Sports Foundation after retiring from the California Department of Justice (DOJ). During the last 13 years at DOJ, Ms. Lewis was assigned to the Division of Law Enforcement (DLE) / Bureau of Firearms (BOF) as a Field Representative. In that assignment, she inspected California firearm dealers (store fronts, home dealers and pawn shops), manufacturers, dangerous weapons permit holders, etc. and conducted training for firearm dealers, gunsmith students, BOF staff, professional organizations, mental health facilities, superior courts, law enforcement officers and personnel.
Ms. Lewis is certified by the California Department of Justice and the Stanislaus State University in Crime and Intelligence Analysis. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Guardian Protection Force and has served as the Training Officer for the California Narcotic Officers Association, Region II, Board and Sgt. @ Arms for the International Association of Intelligence Analysis Association, Chapter I, Board.
John McNamara joined NSSF in 2017. In the seven years prior to that, he served as vice president at PTR Industries, Inc., a South Carolina-based rifle manufacturer. During that time, McNamara was responsible for the company’s sales, marketing, compliance, public relations and administrative efforts. Backed by an extensive knowledge of the firearms industry’s distribution network, retail network, events and the challenges they all face, he brings a unique set of skills to his role as NSSF’s Senior Director, Retailer Services.
