E-Commerce Legal Expert Sean Connolly Joins 2016 SHOT Show University Roster

More than ever before, today’s firearms retailers looking at e-commerce not as an “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” proposition but rather as just another practical way to capture additional sales, provide better customer service and grow profits. E-commerce sites can provide all those things and more, but especially when it comes to firearms sales, extra vigilance is needed to stay compliant.

To help our retailers do just that, attorney Sean Connolly of the law firm Kutak Rock LLP will be presenting the session “Legal Aspects of E-Commerce,” part of the Veteran Retailer learning track. During this session, attendees will discover the many unique regulatory issues inherent to selling firearms via e-commerce and across state lines. What happens if the buyer on the other end doesn’t pass the NICS background check? What do you do with a gun you received for transfer that never has a customer come in for it? How much about another state’s and locality’s laws do you have to know before you complete an online sale and send a firearm onto the customer’s hometown FFL? The answers to these questions and more will be addressed, along with discussion on the practicality and risk of working with online firearms sales.

Sean Connolly is a registered patent attorney who brings more than a decade of experience in intellectual law to the table. A founding member of Kutak Rock’s National Firearms Practice group, which provides counsel to manufacturers of firearms, related accessories and outdoor equipment, Connolly is also an avid hunter, recreational shooter and handloader. Kutak Rock LLP, a law firm headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, is a Bronze sponsor of the 2016 SHOT Show University.
