Charlotte’s Carolina Sporting Arms Receives NSSF’s Five-Star Rating

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the firearms industry trade association, is pleased to announce that it has awarded Carolina Sporting Arms the organization’s Five-Star rating. Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, this premium facility was founded in 1998 by David Drummond and Scott Pope and originally located in the city’s Dilworth/Uptown area. The store moved to a new, 10,000 square-foot location on South Boulevard in 2002 and added its state-of-the-art, 5,000 square-foot indoor shooting range in 2013. David Drummond is now the sole owner.

“People in North Carolina have lots of options when it comes to shooting, but the constant stream of happy customers coming and going from Carolina Sporting Arms shows they know a good deal when they see it,” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Range Services. “Clean, friendly, modern, service-oriented, knowledgeable, professional — all these words underscore what a premium facility this is and why it deserves our full Five-Star rating.”

Open six days a week, the uniquely designed two-story range supports handgun, rifle and shotgun use across 14 climate-controlled lanes. A 20-yard portion of the range supports fixed-position target practice, while the 25-yard range was designed expressly for real-world tactical training. Computer-controlled target systems, including turning targets on the tactical range, more than 100 rental handguns and rifles, and membership available monthly or yearly round out the range features, while a creative list of training classes keeps shooters coming back for more. The fully stocked retail store services target shooters, competitors, concealed carry practitioners and hunters alike, while Carolina’s partnership with online firearms auctioneer GunsInternational.com satisfies the whims of both bargain shoppers and collectors.

“We are thrilled to receive the NSSF’s Five-Star recognition for our range,” said David Drummond, the range’s owner. “The evaluation was extensive and really identified areas in which we do well and areas in which we could improve. This ranking puts us in exclusive company, and we couldn’t be happier.”

NSSF’s highly respected Star-Rating Range Program works to encourage ranges of all sizes and locations to excel. Applying for rating requires answering a comprehensive questionnaire and business owner self-evaluation of the facilities, staff, community outreach and other criteria. Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-Star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF member ranges that meet a Three-Star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings.
