Support Grows for Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax Reform

As many as 37 members of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP), including the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited, sent letters in support of federal excise tax reform legislation to Congressman Max Baucus (D-MT), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Chuck Grassley (D-IA), ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Rep. David Camp (R-MI), ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The letters read, “The undersigned organizations, representing millions of hunter conservationists, are writing to urge passage of S. 632 (H.R. 510) as part of the tax “Extenders” or “Small Business” legislative packages currently being considered in the United States Senate (House of Representatives). Passage of this legislation this year is critical to wildlife conservation and the health of America’s firearms and ammunition industries.”

In recent weeks, Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), John McCain (R-Ariz) and Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn) became the latest to co-sponsor this pro-conservation, pro-business and bi-partisan legislation in the Senate.  Recent co-sponsors of H.R. 510 in the House of Representatives include: Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX) and Rep. Ciro D. Rodriguez (D-TX).

NSSF is asking all sportsmen and firearms enthusiasts to call Sen. Baucus and Rep. Levin and urge them to include the firearms and ammunition excise tax reform bill in the tax “Extenders” or “Small Business” legislative packages currently being considered in Congress.
