Support for ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban at Record Low, Yet One Candidate Continues to Call for One
A new Gallup poll shows that support for a ban on so-called “assault weapons” just hit a record low of 36 percent, with a clear majority (61 percent) of Americans opposing an outright ban. This is the highest percent of opposition ever recorded and comes despite the political drumbeat and mainstream media misinformation against what are more accurately called Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) that are the most popular selling rifle in America.
And this doesn’t only come from gun owners. Support for a ban has declined among both those with and without a gun in the home. A majority of Americans without a gun in their home oppose the ban. Yet Hillary Clinton continues to push for a return to the discredited Assault Weapons Ban of her husband’s presidency as a central plank of her candidacy.
Support for a ban has dropped among independents and even Democrats, which is why Mrs. Clinton’s recent call “for a reinstatement of the national assault weapons ban and a prohibition on high-capacity magazines” shows just how out-of-touch she is with the American public.
Although Mrs. Clinton regularly says that she is “not here to take away your guns,” her laundry list of to-do’s against gun rights in America is long. She heralded Australia’s mandatory gun buyback program as a “good example” and something that is “worth considering” when even Australian officials have now admitted their gun confiscation scheme was a bad idea. She can also be heard in a recording telling donors the Supreme Court is “wrong” on the Second Amendment in the “terrible” (her words) District of Columbia v. Heller decision, a decision that confirmed the Second Amendment as an individual, fundamental right.
In a time when Americans are feeling increasingly unsafe, many are looking to firearms to protect themselves and their families. As Hillary Clinton calls for more gun control, gun sales continue to reach record high levels. In the month of September gun sales hit the 17th consecutive monthly record, according to FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS) data, and overall sales are up 27 percent compared to the same period last year.
So, to re-cap, support for an assault weapons ban have hit a record low, gun sales reached a record high, and candidate Clinton keeps pushing for new restrictions on our rights. This just doesn’t add up, unless you calculate using Hillary Math which involves ignoring data involving the majority of Americans, while adding up all the misleading rhetoric that plays well to her most committed political base.
Do your own research. Don’t be fooled. Only you can protect your gun rights by getting out and voting on Election Day. #GUNVOTE on Nov. 8.
