Retailer Seminars — Avoiding Common Pitfalls of an ATF Inspection

They say that we learn from our mistakes. That may be true, but in many situations it’s far better to know where certain obstacles and pitfalls are ahead of time so that you can have a plan in place to avoid them. One of those situations is an ATF inspection.

This year’s Retailer Seminar “Top 10 ATF Inspection Traps to Avoid” will help you do just that—avoid a host of problems and violations commonly encountered in a compliance inspection. Hosted by FFLGuard, a legal services and compliance solutions firm for the firearms industry, this important seminar will provide a unique perspective on the latest ATF inspection trends and policy that every FFL should know. This high-level presentation will address ATF inspection process tendencies FFLs are likely to encounter, insider policies and protocols currently guiding today’s inspection protocols, common mistakes made by licensees when inspected and various pitfalls that can be avoided to sidestep those violations that can be determined to be “willful.”

This session will be moderated by two of FFLGuard’s staff of professionals, Christopher Chiafullo, National Coordinating Counsel, and James Zamilo, Director of Client Compliance. Chiafullo has diverse areas of legal expertise, running the gamut from litigation to regulatory to transactional matters, with a primary concentration on the defense of the firearms and explosives industry, Federal firearms law, and the preservation of federal firearms and explosives licenses. He is also the founding principal of The Chiafullo Group, LLC, where he serves as the point of contact for various firearms-specific lawyers aligned in interest around the country. Zamillo joined FFLGuard in 2011, after retiring from a 42-year career with the ATF in 2010. He is also the principal of Ponte Nuovo Consulting, a consulting firm dedicated to work within the firearms industry with a focus on promoting public safety.

“Top 10 ATF Inspection Traps to Avoid” is one of nearly 20 Retailer Seminars being conducted during the 2016 SHOT Show.
