Retailer Seminar on Export Compliance Helps Pave the Way for Expansion
Whether you’re an experienced exporter or just starting to explore this option as a way to expand your business profile, you already know there are myriad laws and regulations to deal with. Our 2017 SHOT Show Retailer Seminar “Export Compliance Basics” was specifically designed to simplify that complex maze and help you stay compliant.
This session will be moderated by Chris Chiafullo and Ryan Cleckner, both of FFLGuard, a U.S.-based legal services and compliance firm servicing the firearms industry. Chiafullo is the company’s National Coordinating Counsel. His areas of legal expertise run the gamut from litigation to regulatory to transactional matters, though he concentrates primarily on the defense of the firearms, federal firearms law and the preservation of FFL and explosives licenses issued and regulated by the ATF.
Cleckner joined FFLGuard in 2016, where he serves as an associate attorney assisting the National Coordinating Counsel’s office. He has served as the Federal Government Relations Manager for NSSF and has served as a voting member on the board of the Sporting Arms Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI), and he is a past vice president of Remington Outdoor Company (Remington, Marlin Bushmaster, AAC, DPMS, and others) in charge of firearm compliance.
“Export Compliance Basics” is an absolute must-attend for any manufacturer, distributor or retailer currently exporting or thinking about getting into the business of exporting controlled products. During this session you’ll learn how a single error can cost your tens of thousands for dollars and potentially land land you in jail—and how you can prevent those errors from happening. The seminar will discuss the export control regulations covered under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), definitions under ITAR, the licensing process, what products are covered under the State Department versus Commerce Department and practices to ensure your compliance regime is bulletproof.

The Retailer Seminar “Export Compliance Basics” will take place Thursday, January 19, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Both NSSF Members and non-members can reserve their seats for $25.
