NSSF Welcomes Former ATF Director of Industry Operations Mary Jo Hughes as Newest Member of FFL Compliance Consulting Team
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) is pleased to announce that former ATF Director of Industry Operations Mary Jo Hughes has agreed to join the organization as a member of its retail FFL Compliance Consulting Team.
Recently retired from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Hughes began her long career with the federal agency in 1986 as an inspector in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She served as program manager for several ATF offices as her career advanced, before being appointed the Division Chief of Firearms Services Division at ATF headquarters in 2000. In that position, Hughes oversaw the Firearms Licensing Center, Explosives Licensing Center, Imports Branch and National Firearms Branch. She subsequently rose to the position of Chief of Staff for the Enforcement Programs and Services Directorate, a title she held for two years, before returning to field service with the DIO position in St. Paul in 2006.
“With the continued growth of NSSF’s membership and our desire to deliver programs and benefits our members need, we are excited to add Ms. Hughes to NSSF’s team of FFL Compliance Consultants,” said Patrick Shay, NSSF Director, Retail Development. “She brings nearly three decades of in-the-field, policy and administrative ATF experience to the table and a commitment to helping our firearms retailers negotiate today’s volume of paperwork and regulations. We expect our member firearms retailers will discover Ms. Hughes to be an indispensable resource to them.”
“NSSF is affording me a unique opportunity by enabling me to utilize the knowledge and experience I gained developing and overseeing firearms policy,” said Hughes. “My goal is to assist NSSF member retailers in achieving and maintaining the highest possible level of voluntary compliance.”
NSSF provides a team of Compliance Consultants, all former ATF officials, to work with its members in an advisory capacity and aid them in issues of regulatory compliance. For more information on becoming a member of NSSF, email membership@nssf.org or click here.
