NSSF Expands Hunting Works For America to Include the Rushmore State

Hunting Works For South Dakota becomes newest state chapter to join award-winning program

Hunting Works For South DakotaNEWTOWN, Conn. — For the third time in 2017, the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is proud to announce that the Hunting Works For America program has expanded its reach. Hunting Works For South Dakota launched on Tuesday, Oct. 17 with a press conference at the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

With over 60 partners at the time of launch, Hunting Works For South Dakota joins Hunting Works For New York and Hunting Works For Illinois as a member of the 2017 class. Previous states to receive a coveted Hunting Works For America chapter include Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin, giving Hunting Works For America a truly national presence. Hunting Works For South Dakota is the 17th chapter added to the award-winning program since it was first developed back in 2010.

“South Dakota is home to world-class hunting and we couldn’t be happier to expand Hunting Works For America in a state that opens wide its doors to sportsmen and women from all across the globe,” said Chris Dolnack, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for NSSF.

Utilizing a unique and diverse network of businesses, conservation organizations, shooting sports organizations and other non-traditional supporters of hunting such as convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce and trade associations, Hunting Works For South Dakota will tell the story of the economic footprint that the sport has in the state, while raising awareness of the importance of hunting.

“With a population of less than 1 million people, South Dakota may not be largest state in the union, but the footprint that hunting has on the state is truly astonishing,” said Dolnack. “Each year, 270,000 people hunt in South Dakota. They’re spending trickles through the entire economy. In fact, hunters spend $723 million a year, support over 11,000 jobs and contribute over $62 million in state and local taxes. Overall, the economic impact of hunting in South Dakota is a staggering $972 million.”

Initially Hunting Works For America launched in 2010 with just three states, Hunting Works For Arizona, Hunting Works For Minnesota and Hunting Works For North Dakota. The program has now grown, and includes 17 states across the country. All totaled, the Hunting Works For America program now represents more than 2,800 businesses, organizations and associations representing tens of thousands of stakeholders.

Becoming a member of Hunting Works For South Dakota is absolutely free of charge so please visit www.HuntingWorksforSD.com to learn more about how to become a partner and the program including leadership, members, social media opportunities and local hunting seasons.
