NSSF Debuts Store Security Audit Program
for Retailers, Ranges and Manufacturers
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is pleased to announce that it is now offering a day-long security consultation program for its members. Spearheaded by Bill Napier, a member of NSSF’s FFL Security Consultant Team and an expert on security issues affecting the firearms industry, and Patrick Shay, NSSF Director, Retail Development, the NSSF Store Security Audit Program will add yet another layer of safety and compliance knowledge to NSSF’s efforts in these areas, while also providing additional value to the NSSF membership.
“We are very excited to offer this new program,” said Shay. “Security today involves so much more than setting an alarm and locking the front door. Truly, the technologies available can come and go nearly as quickly as Apple introduces a new iPhone. For retailers, range owners, manufacturers — really anyone in our industry who has on-hand merchandise, customer records and information, new-product prototypes and a plethora of other items that need to be secured — this program can go a long way towards preventing a devastating loss.”
The day-long visit by one of NSSF’s FFL Security Consultant Team members, each of whom have an average 25-plus years of experience as store security/loss prevention specialists, will include review of:
Access Control Systems (including badges)
Intrusion Detection Systems (Burglar Alarm)
CCTV System Review, inclusive of Camera Type and Placement
Information Security & Document Management
Lock and Key Management
Perimeter and Property Security
Safety Systems (fire suppression, backup power)
Visitor Entry and Verification Procedures
Emergency Management
Personnel Security
Inventory Management & Control
While on site, an NSSF Security Consultant will meet with the owner and other pertinent management, security and facility personnel to perform interviews discussing current risk, loss and security programs, as well as policies and procedures already in place. During these interviews, the businesses will also discuss security concerns that may already exist as well as any historical incidents that may have had or could have had an impact on the business. Following these initial evaluations, a guided walkthrough of the member facility will be also conducted, where all loss, risk and physical security controls will be evaluated for effectiveness.
The day will wrap with the NSSF Security Consultant working with the NSSF member to determine if certain controls need to be improved or new strategies deployed to help mitigate identified threats to the business.
The new NSSF Store Security Audit Program is available only to NSSF members. Additional information on this special program can be found at www.nssf.org/retailers/SecurityAudit.
