NSSF Awards Five-Star Rating to Washington State’s The Range
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is pleased to announce that it has awarded its highest Five-Star rating for range excellence to The Range LLC of Yakima, Washington.
The heart of The Range is its 15-lane interior featuring action-target technology for optimum client entertainment, a factor that’s highlighted in the facility’s busy calendar of events, including ladies night, date night and youth shoots, as well as manufacturers’ new-product demos held throughout the year. A full-service retail store and a robust rental gun inventory encourages clients to take advantage of The Range’s unique try-before-you-buy program, which allows patrons to try any firearm they like, and if they buy that model within five days, all rental fees are deducted from the cost of the gun. A full-time in-house gunsmith department offers repairs, custom work, accurizing and firearm Cerakoting, and is a much-sought resource for The Range’s regular clientele.
The shooting range and retail store are enhanced by a number of amenities. At the top of the list is a three-lane private VIP shooting suite and a full-service conference room, which make The Range a natural pick for private parties and corporate events. Members also have access to a dedicated gun-cleaning room and lockers.
An enormous roster of training programs is another top draw. A staff of certified instructors oversees private instruction and group classes that run the gamut from Basic Handgun Level 1 and Competition Pistol Level 1 to concealed carry classes at two levels and state rifle certification that meets the criteria for semi-automatic rifle purchases in the state after its I-1639 law takes effect July 2019. A number of action shooting leagues, family nights, Tactical Tuesday shoots and other activities, including a basic firearms safety class The Range offers free to the public and NSSF’s own First Shots® introductory seminars, keep this six-day-a-week range thriving.

NSSF’s highly respected Star-Rating Range Program works to encourage ranges of all sizes and locations to excel. Applying for a rating requires answering a comprehensive questionnaire and business owner self-evaluation of the facilities, staff, community outreach and other criteria. Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-Star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF Member ranges that meet a Three-Star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings.
