NSSF Adds Extended Classes to
2015 Retailer Seminar Lineup
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) is pleased to announce that it has developed a series of extended Retailer Seminars for FFL holders. These new, eight-hour seminars will take the place of the normal five-hour seminars scheduled for the following locations and dates:
Corpus Christi, Texas—April 14
Anaheim, California—April 21
New Orleans, Louisiana—May 12
Atlanta, Georgia—May 19
Detroit, Michigan—July 14
The enhanced eight-hour seminars will consist of two educational tracks. One track is designed to provide firearms retailers ATF compliance training by former ATF executives. Topics included will be error proofing 4473 forms, proper paperwork flow, inventory procedures, discussion of the top 10 mistakes made during an ATF audit and best practices for firearms Acquisition and Disposition books. In addition, representatives from the FBI and NICS will teach and train attendees on background check procedures, while NSSF staff members will present topics on straw purchase awareness and store security.
The second track is designed to provide training to firearms retailers on how to adjust their businesses to face the demands of today’s ever-changing customer base. Growth through diversity outreach and managing these new customers to make them a permanent and loyal part of an FFL’s current customer base is critical to expanding today’s firearms retail businesses. Topics to be included in this track will include merchandising, adapting marketing messages to reach a broader customer base, developing special events to bring new shooters to the business and staff training on how to welcome and serve new clientele.
“Attendees to our Retail Seminars, many of whom attend the seminar in their area every year, tell us they’re always looking for ways to improve not just their level of compliance, but their business in general,” said Patrick Shay, NSSF Director, Retail Development. “We think these expanded sessions will help them do just that.”
NSSF Retail Seminars are open to all FFL holders. Host state FFLs will receive an invitation to attend their area seminars 45 days prior to the seminar date. NSSF member retailers may attend the sessions for free; non-members may attend with a $100 fee per attendee. The full schedule of Seminars is available here. Need to join NSSF? Click here.
