New Range Builds — An A-Z How-To
So, you’ve decided to open an indoor range. You have an idea of where in town you want it located, and there’s a picture in your head of what you want it to look like to customers walking through the door.
Those are two great things to have in mind when you want to establish a new shooting range, but where do you go from there? Do you start with local and state permits? City planning and zoning commissions? Architects, building contractors and real estate agents who you contract to sell your home? How about demographic research backing a business plan that all those entities will need?
You could spend a lot of legwork and incur more than a few headaches figuring out who and what to start with … or you could simply take part in the seminar “The Process of Establishing a Shooting Range Facility.” This comprehensive presentation, taking place during the 2019 Range-Retailer Business Expo, will be delivered by two experts in the field: Stuart Mullen, who has had an extensive career in city planning and zoning and now takes that expertise to work with start-up commercial range facilities; and Bobby Cummings, an expert in range design who heads the public safety practice for the architectural, engineering and planning firm of Clark Nexsen. Both have been there from start to finish on numerous range builds and their words of wisdom will walk you through the maze of tasks needed to get a range up and running with minimal heartburn, as well as detail the expected costs you’ll encounter along the way.
