Looking Good — The Art of Inventory and Display
The famous big-box stores make it look easy. Scads of well-organized merchandise, head-turning signage, roomy aisles, and gleaming display cases filled with all sorts of shiny objects. Oh, and the long lines at the registers with shopping carts brimming over with thousands of dollars in product.
Well, all that isn’t easy — or at least it doesn’t come cheap. Those stores have teams of professional merchandisers, people who have degrees in and a deep understanding of what it takes visually to excite the sensation to buy. They also have knee-deep teams of professional and well-educated buyers, marketers, public relations people and, yes, interior designers.
You do not. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take a chapter or two from their book. Doug VanderWoude and Gary Kunn have those chapters, and they’re prepared to share them with you in the seminar “Inventory Management and Merchandising” at the 2019 Range-Retailer Business Expo.
VanderWoude is one of the Managing Partners of Impact Firearms Range & Retail Consulting, while Kunn is the Director of Sales for United Sporting Companies. The pair have more than a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to the precarious art of inventory levels management and merchandise arrangement that draws attention the attention of your customers and prompts that “I want that!” response. Whether your doors have been swinging and your registers ringing for 30 weeks or 30 years, there’s a wealth of insight here for any retailer.
