Legal Expert Joseph Kavan to Speak at 2016 SHOT Show University
One of the ways to expand and diversify their businesses that many retailers today are exploring is that of adding a firearms shooting range to their store facility. With the right planning, marketing and execution, such an investment truly can drive traffic and grow your customer base. Part of that execution is allowing for the complex legalities involved.
A part of SHOT Show University’s newest learning track, “Range Development,” I am pleased to announce that attorney Joseph Kavan will be headlining the session “Shooting Range Formation and Operation.” During this presentation, Kavan will discuss the business structuring, cost analytics, the raising of capital funds, zoning and municipal ordinance considerations, regulatory issues, waste disposal and recycling mandates, EPA and OSHA compliance considerations, ATF licensing and the operational issues new indoor shooting ranges can expect to encounter as ongoing matters.
A senior partner with the law firm Kutak Rock, LLP, a Bronze sponsor of the 2016 SHOT Show University, Kavan is the founder of the firm’s National Firearms Practice Group, where his deep expertise in the understanding and application of the statutes, rules and regulations of the NFA, GCA, AEC, ITAR, NICS, state laws and local ordinances lends itself to the group’s work with firearms industry members.
Registration for the 2016 SHOT Show and SHOT Show University are now open. Following last year’s success with ticket restructuring, once again NSSF will offer its Premium Retailer members one complimentary ticket to SHOT Show University. Tickets for any other NSSF member level and additional tickets for Premium Retailer members are $250. Non-NSSF members are welcome to attend, with a ticket price of $500. This event is always a sell-out, so retailers are urged to complete their registration for the show and SHOT Show University as soon as possible.
