Industry Icon Linda Powell Inducted into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame

By Tisma Juett, NSSF Manager, Inclusion & Outreach

There are many icons in the hunting, conservation and shooting sports community. Names that immediately come to mind are Johnny Morris, Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, Teddy Roosevelt, Aldo Leopold, to name a few. These are names that have been associated with of the community for years, generations even. But when we look at the list we notice they are all men. What about the women?

One that immediately comes to mind is Brenda Valentine. No one can deny she is indeed the First Lady of Hunting®. Today, with the numerous outdoor networks that exist now, there are many other younger ladies who are getting involved and making a name for themselves. Yet, there is one who has been doing it for quite a bit longer.

For more than 20 years, Linda Powell, Director of Media Relations for O.F. Mossberg & Sons, has traveled across the country and world with outdoor writers and hunting all sorts of game. She has spent numerous times in hunting camps, trekking over mountains and enduring some of the toughest hunting terrain known to man … uh, woman.

Powell, arrived late to the hunting party, but if you ask her, it was just in time. She already had a career in nursing, but there was another call that she had to answer, even if she didn’t know it yet. Powell didn’t begin shooting or hunting until she started working for the Remington Outdoors Company. Fast forward to a Becoming an Outdoors Woman weekend and a black bear hunt shortly thereafter, and the rest is history.

Saturday, August 25, Powell was recognized for her contributions to the outdoors as she was inducted into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. No one has more passion for the outdoors or the hunting and shooting industry than Linda Powell, and we proudly congratulate her on becoming a Legend.

The other 2018 Inductees in the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame were: Jimmy Sites, Spiritual Outdoors Adventures; Orlando Wilson, outdoors fishing television; Jim Scoutten, Shooting USA; Charlie Brewer Jr., Charlie Brewer Slider Company; Doug Minor, Strike King Lures; and Doug McAteer, BearMagnet TV.
