Increase in Apprentice Hunting Licenses

"I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders."

–Henry David Thoreau

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance and National Wild Turkey Federation planted a seed of sorts when they joined forces to launch the Families Afield program. The intention was to make it easier for adult mentors to introduce youngsters to hunting at an early age. Since 2005 nearly 400,000 apprentice hunting licenses have been purchased nationwide, with that number expected to grow in the future. That's good news for hunting.

Families Afield serves as a key initiative to offset the loss of older hunters by bringing new, younger hunters into the ranks. Read the NSSF news release about the latest Families Afield successes.
