Chicago’s Maxon Shooter’s Supplies and Indoor Range Earns Coveted NSSF Five-Star Rating

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the firearms industry trade association, is pleased to announce that it has awarded Maxon Shooter’s Supplies and Indoor Range its top, Five-Star range approval rating.

“Maxon earned Illinois’ first five-star rating under our previous evaluation program,” explained Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Shooting Range Services. “Knowing how good they were then, when we revised our rating program last year and strengthened the qualifying criteria to achieve the full five stars, we fully expected the range and staff to make the grade — and they did not disappoint.”

Shooting lanes at Maxon Indoor RangeOperating in one of the most challenging areas of the country for firearms retailers and firearms owners alike, Maxon’s range features 20 75-foot lanes, 10 of which are dedicated pistol lanes, while the other 10 accommodate rifles and shotguns. The spotless, brightly lit facility features state-of-the-art target automation and ventilation setups, a robust rental firearms program supported by an experienced instructor staff and a wide range of user fees that accommodate every practice regimen and budget. An inventory of more than 600 firearms, ammunition, accessories and Liberty safes in the range’s accompanying retail facility appeals to Chicago’s diverse market, and the store’s in-house gunsmiths can fulfill most any maintenance and modification request. A full roster of instruction is available for rifles, shotguns, handguns, and concealed carry, along with a host of specialized classes — including “My First Gun – What’s Right for Me?” — plus private, one-on-one classes. A year-round calendar of special events keeps the interest level high among the store’s bustling clientele.

“The entire staff at Maxon’s worked hard to achieve the Five-Star rating, and we are proud to be part of the National Shooting Sports Foundation family,” said Sarah Natalie, General Manager. “Our mission continues to be that of providing the safest, highest-quality shooting experience for our customers and a commitment to education and advocacy for the shooting sports community in Chicagoland. With a great and constantly improving facility and a top-notch staff, we welcome all Chicago area enthusiasts to ‘Feel at Home on the Range.’”

NSSF’s highly respected Star-Rating Range Program works to encourage ranges of all sizes and locations to excel. Applying for rating requires answering a comprehensive questionnaire and business owner self-evaluation of the facilities, staff, community outreach and other criteria. Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF member ranges that meet a Three-star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings.
