Chicago Mayor Pushes to Sue Firearms Industry in World Court
While concluding his sixth annual Richard J. Daley Global Cities Forum, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley convinced his counterparts from around the world to approve a resolution urging "redress against the gun industry through the courts of the world" in The Hague.
This resolution comes six years after the Illinois Supreme Court dismissed the Windy City's $433 million frivolous lawsuit against members of the firearms industry. That suit sought to hold firearms industry members responsible for the criminal acts of others who misused their products.
Among those supporting Mr. Daley were Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard Casauban and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.
Important to note: The State Department approves the export of all firearms and ammunition and the Commerce Department approves the export of all shotguns and shells.
