Apprentice Hunting License Sales Top Three-Quarter Million

New research shows the huge impact that the Families Afield program is having across the country. In all, 782,604 apprentice hunting licenses have been sold with a significant portion of those being adults in 2011.

The Families Afield partners, which include NSSF, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance and National Wild Turkey Federation — along with the National Rifle Association and Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation — have worked to pass Families Afield bills in 32 states.

Apprentice licenses, the hallmark of the Families Afield program, allow an experienced hunter to take a newcomer hunting under close supervision prior to the completion of a hunter education course. And, for the first time, data was collected on the age range of apprentice license buyers. In the states that were able to break out license buyers by age, more than one third of all apprentice buyers were adults.
