NSSF, POMA Unveil Award
in Honor of Grits Gresham
LAS VEGAS—Throughout his storied career, Grits
Gresham has personified the role of an outdoor communicator.
Recognizing his extraordinary achievements made in
support of America’s hunting heritage and firearm freedoms, the National
Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) presented Gresham with a special
Lifetime Achievement Award at the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade
(SHOT) Show. The award capped a ceremony held before a capacity crowd of
more than 1,800 leaders from the industry.
“So many of us in this business have been richly
rewarded by our experiences, whether high atop a mountain peak or
hunkered down in a duck blind. We have made our passion our profession,”
said Doug Painter, NSSF president. “But as much as our honoree has
received from a lifetime out-of-doors, he has given back much more. Year
after year, Grits Gresham has brought his great talent, his wisdom and
his heart to bear in support and in defense of what all of us so much
value and believe in.”
In honor of Gresham’s lifetime achievements in
shooting, hunting and outdoor communications, a new and annually
presented award will bear his name permanently. NSSF and the recently
formed Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) will begin
presenting the POMA/NSSF Grits Gresham Communicator of the Year Award in
2007.
The award will be presented each year at the State of
the Industry Gala at SHOT Show to an outdoor communicator in the
firearms/shooting sports/Second Amendment arena. POMA will develop the
criteria and conduct the award selection process.
“POMA is honored to be the home of the POMA/NSSF
Grits Gresham Communicator of the Year Award and to partner with NSSF in
recognizing the most noted communicators in our industry by presenting
them with this award—the highest honor available to an outdoor
communications professional,” said Betty Lou Fegely, POMA president and
chairman. -30-
