NSSF Staff Strategizes with House Leaders

Despite Congress being out of session, the NSSF government relations staff met with House Republican leaders and Committee Chairmen on the latest developments on Export Control Reform and the guidance from the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) on the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), as well as the Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act package contained in the Energy Bill currently in conference. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who has been leading the efforts to address the problems with the guidance and push completion of the Export Control Reform initiative, sat down with NSSF staff members for senior level discussions on the impact this has on industry members, and to strategize ways to fix the problem. In addition, NSSF met with House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop (R-Utah) on the ongoing conference committee negotiations on the Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act.

Obama's Executive Action Against Gunsmiths, Call Congress Today

NSSF is urging members of the firearms industry and gun owners to call their U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators and tell them to stop Obama's latest anti-gun executive action aimed at putting gunsmiths out of business. The Obama administration was supposed to transfer export licensing of guns and ammunition to Commerce as part of its overall "Export Control Reform" initiative but because of its anti-gun agenda they have refused to move our products over to Commerce from State. Additionally, gunsmiths will be required to pay an annual $2,250 registration fee for simply mounting new sights on hunting rifles. Call your U.S. Representative at 202-225-3121 and U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121. Send an email too! Tell them to oppose Obama's executive action aimed at putting gunsmiths out of business. CALL TODAY BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

  • Call your U.S. Senators: 202-224-3121

Governor Christie Vetoes Smart Gun Mandate Again

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie conditionally vetoed smart gun legislation again. The bill would have mandated retailers to carry at least one smart gun in their inventory. The governor continues to support removing ALL smart gun mandates not just trading one for another in the state.

The governor also vetoed a Democrat bill which would have established a legal definition for "justifiable need" for carrying a firearm in New Jersey. His veto statement would make New Jersey a "shall issue" state. The Democrats will likely override this veto, but it is nevertheless a bold move for a New Jersey governor. NSSF would like to thank the Governor for continuing to support the Second Amendment.

Their generous support is vital in helping to educate voters on important issues impacting our industry.

#GUNVOTE Video: Exposing Hillary Clinton's Gun Control Agenda

In response to Hillary Clinton's claims that she is "not here to repeal the Second Amendment," NSSF has released a #GUNVOTE video exposing Hillary's true motives. These claims are of course at odds with her decades old anti-gun rhetoric and NSSF asks that industry companies get the facts out by sharing this video with your followers on social media. Ask them, "Will Hillary Clinton render the fundamental human right to keep and bear arms for defense impossible to exercise? You be the judge."

#GUNVOTE is for Your Industry's Effort in 2016

Invite an Elected Official to Visit Your Facility

This is an election year and both federal and state office holders are eager to meet constituents (and voters). They are interested in learning about companies, their employment and economic impact. NSSF encourages you to invite your U.S. Senators and Congressman or state legislators to visit your facility. The better your representatives in Washington and in your state capital understand your business and challenges, the more responsive they can and will respond to issues that concern you.

Start with calling your elected representative's district offices and ask to speak with the person who schedules activities and visits. These numbers can be found on their websites. The person answering the phone will know how to direct your call. When you do make contact and schedule a visit, let us at NSSF know. We are interested and can help.
